Forest Conservation

In Brazil alone, deforestation is responsible for 44% of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere (Source: SEEG). And what has BRCarbon been doing? The Forest Conservation Program (PCF) works by generating carbon credits from the conservation of native vegetation and aims to reach different regions forming a protection arc along the nine states of the Legal Amazon.

BRCarbon is developing a pooled carbon project in the Brazilian Amazon, which aims at forest conservation on private properties in the Legal Amazon. The project has five instances located in the states of Acre and Mato Grosso.

Climate benefits:

  • 114 thousand hectares of conserved forest area.
  • 19 thousand hectares of avoided deforestation.
  • 9.3 million tons of CO₂e of avoided net emission.

Benefits to traditional communities

They will be achieved through actions of social engagement, education, digital inclusion, health, access to drinking water, job and income generation, training and capacity building, rural extension, and infrastructure construction. These actions involve more than 45 families, representing more than 180 people.

Benefits to biodiversity

Conservation of forest areas located in centers of endemism in the Amazon. During the biodiversity survey, 165 species of birds were seen, 6 of them vulnerable or threatened with extinction, 42 species of reptiles, 19 species of mammals, 2 of them vulnerable or threatened with extinction.
