A equipe de biodiversidade da BRCarbon e o time da Organização de Conservação da Terra (OCT) começaram o monitoramento do projeto agrupado de restauração na APA do Pratigi, classificado como Selo Ouro para biodiversidade.

Serão monitorados 150 ha – project activity instance (PAI) 1 e 2 – em pleno Corredor Central da Mata Atlântica, uma região de raro endemismo e de alta biodiversidade, considerada um hotspot para conservação. O território da APA do Pratigi possui elevada riqueza hídrica, com grande oferta de água e chuvas bem distribuídas ao longo de todo o ano.

Em seus limites, a APA é drenada por dez sub-bacias e uma bacia hidrográfica, a do Rio Juliana, um dos principais motivos de criação dessa Unidade de Conserva­ção. A bacia do rio Juliana ainda abriga extensos fragmentos de floresta ombrófila densa, mas sofre um processo de ocupação das áreas de preservação per­manente, com desmatamentos recorren­tes desde a década de 1990.

Entre as medidas para reverter o cenário atual de degradação, está a restauração de matas ciliares e nascentes das propriedades da região, com o apoio de recursos financeiros do mercado de carbono. Ainda em 2021, o projeto será verificado perante os padrões VCS/CCB.
